At the Sky Ridge Cancer Center, our team is always learning and innovating new techniques and options for fighting cancer. We are dedicated to finding the most effective treatment possible, while working to reduce the impact of the treatment on the body.
Using minimally invasive techniques, our team is often able to diagnose and treat cancer effectively while reducing the impact of side effects and reducing recovery time.
Sky Ridge Medical Center uses the latest technology to detect and diagnose lung cancer at its earliest and most treatable stage. We were the first hospital in the Denver metro area to acquire and use the SPiN Thoracic Navigation System by Veran Medical Technologies. The Veran technology increases your doctor’s ability to detect and diagnose smaller lesions as well as navigate harder to reach areas. With early diagnosis of lung cancer, it dramatically improves your chance of survival.
Unique to the comprehensive Sky Ridge cancer center is our on-site Radiation Oncology program. Our program includes 100% CT-based treatment planning; a full range of immobilization devices for improved reproducibility; ability to merge diagnostic CT, MRI and PET scans; complimentary massage services; Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) and Conformal 3D Radiation Therapy; and a linear accelerator (LINAC) treatment machine ("the cancer crusher").
The "Cancer Crusher"
Dubbed the "cancer crusher," this highly advanced linear accelerator is a physician-controlled robot. It allows doctors to treat various cancers and tumors — most effectively avoiding healthy cells and making sure the body doesn't receive unneeded radiation. It is highly specialized and focused radiation treatmetns only on the spot that needs to be treated.
Interventional Radiology is a sub-specialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedures are performed using image guidance (e.g., X-ray and MRI). These doctors specialize in using nonsurgical techniques for targeted treatments. At Sky Ridge, we are known for our expertise in minimally invasive interventional radiology to treat several types of cancer, including liver, breast and colon. Patients come from around the world to consult with Dr. Charles Nutting, a nationally recognized leading interventional radiologist who specializes in minimally invasive cancer therapies.
Sky Ridge has been designated a Center of Excellence for SIR®-Spheres Microspheres radioembolization treatment for inoperable liver tumors and one of the top five institutions in the country performing this procedure. During the procedure, a high dose of radioactivity is released that is designed to minimize the growth of a tumor. It often adds more than a year to the life expectancy of patients with liver cancer.
Center for Robotic Surgery
Robotic surgery is considered to be the most innovative type of minimally invasive surgery available today, combining human touch with precision. With three Xi robots, Sky Ridge performs more robotic surgeries than any other hospital in Colorado.
