Woosik Chung, MD, is a board-certified surgeon in spine and orthopedic surgery. His surgical interests involve the treatment of advanced degenerative spine as well as complex scoliosis deformity with a special focus in the disorders of the neck. Dr. Chung received a degree in Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry from Yale University before completing his doctorate at UMDNJ - The New Jersey Medical School. He pursued his passion for orthopaedic surgery at Columbia University where he found a desire to better understand the world of spine surgery.
Dr. Chung went on to Emory University’s Spine Center in Atlanta to complete a fellowship in orthopedic spine surgery. After his fellowship, Dr. Chung moved to Denver to further pursue his passion and expertise in spine surgery. He has served as the Spine Medical Director at Porter Adventist Hospital, and now he serves as the Spine Medical Director at Presbyterian/St. Luke’s Medical Center in developing a unique comprehensive interdisciplinary spine center.
He is a renowned expert in degenerative spine disorders including complex scoliosis deformities with a special focus on disorders of the neck and cervical spine as well as revision failed spine surgery. His range of spine surgery experience extends to the management of spinal disorders in athletes, degenerative arthritic spines, spinal tumors, spinal infections, and trauma. He uses comprehensive and cutting edge technologies such as Artificial Disc Replacement, Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery, and 3D Navigation Spine Surgery to help treat his patients.
A consummate caregiver, his unparalleled dedication to patient well-being stems from his own personal experience and family history of caregiving. Born and raised in South Korea, Dr. Chung had a childhood accident that severed his hands. They were miraculously reattached by his own father. This experience began him on the path towards helping others as his father did.
Spine surgery and treatment is a complex issue, and few surgeons are as uniquely qualified to administer and manage care as Dr. Woosik Chung. In his free time, Dr. Chung is an avid martial artist and enjoys spending time snowboarding, bicycling, and running with his wife.
