People with TMD may have:

  • Pain in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ)
  • Problems opening the mouth fully
  • A feeling of the jaw “catching” or “locking”, when opening or closing the mouth, or while chewing
  • Popping, clicking, or grating sounds or feelings while eating and drinking
  • Pain in the jaw
  • Facial pain
  • Muscle pain/spasm in the temple or TMJ
  • Headache
  • Ear pain
  • Neck pain
  • Swelling on one or both sides of the face
  • Ringing in the ears
