Sibling Preparation Class
Activities, discussions and practice are used in this session to teach children aged 3 to 7 years about their new role as siblings. Your child will learn about such topics as:
- The emotions associated with becoming a big sister or brother
- Newborn appearance and behavior
- Special rules about new babies
He or she will also practice holding and diapering the baby. This class does not prepare children to participate in the birth. A parent is required to attend.
During the flu season, November 1st to the end of April, a tour of the Birth Place will not be included with this class. Only siblings of the infant are permitted to visit in Labor and Delivery as well as the Mom/Baby unit. All other children under the age of 14 may not visit the unit due to risk of flu exposure to the new mother and infant. We want to protect you and your newborn.
