Sky Ridge Earns Recognition from the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program
Lone Tree, CO – Sky Ridge Medical Center has been selected for the Bronze Achievement Award given by the Colorado Environmental Leadership Program. This achievement recognizes Sky Ridge’s dedication to improving the environment of Colorado and implementing innovative measures that benefit the environment.
Sky Ridge's sustainable efforts include:
- Reduction of solid waste by increasing the volume of recycled waste to 44 tons, or 39 percent, of the total monthly waste volume.
- Reduction of water usage by installing new, "green" technology in the water cooling towers in 2009. Since the upgrade, Sky Ridge has reduced water usage by 250,000 - 300,000 gallons per year.
- Separation of non-hazardous pharmaceutical waste to be diverted away from the landfills. Since November 2011 Sky Ridge has diverted 3,000 lbs.
- Tracking the amount (lbs) of laundry used per patient at the hospital since 2005. In 2005, 11.34 pounds of laundry were used per patient. In April of 2012, Sky Ridge used 10.46 pounds per patient, which represents a monthly estimated savings of 3,000 lbs. This significantly reduces the amount of water and energy needed to operate linen services.
"We constantly establish and revise goals in the areas of waste reduction and reuse"
"We believe in considering the environmental impacts in all of our daily operations," said Maureen Tarrant, CEO of Sky Ridge Medical Center. "But our commitment doesn’t stop there. We constantly establish and revise goals in the areas of waste reduction and reuse, and it’s something Sky Ridge will be doing on an ongoing basis."
